Quality Assurance Program Set for June 20, 2009

Amador County Fair to host Dr Celina Johnson, California State University, Chico College of Agriculture, June 20, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to noon in Pokerville Hall. Learn the latest information on the H1N1 Virus and your role as a livestock producer.

Dr Johnson will be presenting the Youth Quality Assurance Program in cooperation with the California Exposition and State Fair, California Department of Food and Agriculture and the Division of Fairs & Expositions. This program defines your responsibilities as a youth livestock producer and qualifies exhibitors to show at the California Exposition and State Fair.

Dr Johnson will provide information on food safety hazards including; 1) Microbial contamination such as the H1N1 virus, E. coli and salmonella; 2) Chemical hazards such as drug residues; and 3) physical hazards including broken needles and bruising. We will be discussing practices that relate to food quality and production of a high quality project animal.

Swine pre-weigh suspended for 2009


Because of concerns about the H1N1 virus (Swine Flu) the Amador County Fair is suspending the swine pre-weigh requirement for the 2009 Fair. Swine exhibitors or their representatives are required to go to the pre-weigh at the fairground on May 31, 2009 between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. to pick up the ear tag for their pig.

Please do not bring your hog to the fairground on May 31. Pigs will still be shown at the Fair and the Junior Livestock Auction will take place as in previous years.
